About This Center
The San Antonio MBDA Business Center is dedicated to helping the minority entrepreneurs flourish and grow in today's marketplace.
Part of the UTSA Institute for Economic Development and the MBDA network, the San Antonio Business Center has a proven track record of service and advocacy in the minority business community. In operation since 1982, the center has served over 3,500 clients, assisted in procuring over $170 million in contracts, and aided in securing over $185 million in loans and bonds.
The center and its staff have received numerous awards, citations, and proclamations from a variety of organizations over the years in recognition of their outstanding support of the minority community. Most importantly, our clients often refer new businesses and individuals to the Business Center.
The center continues to expand its comprehensive network for outreach and referrals with its strategic partners in the business community. These include banks, loan officers, federal and municipal agency staff, chambers of commerce, and private sector companies.
We are specialists and our mission is to level the economic playing field by providing professional technical and management assistance to minority-owned businesses, enabling them to fully participate in the local and global economy.

Staff Information
Orestes Hubbard, MBA, Project Director
Mr. Hubbard has worked as Director of MBDA Business Center since 2006, The Center has won multiple accolades under his leadership specially recognition from US Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency as the number one center in the Nation for performance outcomes for 2 years in a row. His past professional experience includes working as Vice President of lending for 6 years in which He served minority and mid-market businesses by facilitating their access to capital, also helped foreign companies receive financing to acquire US products as well as developed an international mortgage program to lend money to American nationals to buy properties in select places in Mexico. Mr. Hubbard is a former SBDC Director in New Mexico and Business Development Specialist for the SW Texas Border Region SBDC in San Antonio, Texas.
Mr Hubbard worked as General Manager for Instituto Tecnologico y De Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Mexico for several years prior to coming to the USA. He was in charge of operations and sales of a multi-million dollar operation which employed 60+ individuals. Mr Hubbard also worked as a mechanical engineer for 2 years for a manufacturing company in Mexico. He was born in Monterrey Mexico and lives in San Antonio with his wife Amparo Hubbard and their 2 children Sarah and Orestes.
