May is World Trade Month: Export Success for MBDA Clients

Happy World Trade Month!

For years, May has been the time to not only recognize the benefits of international trade, but also for organizations around the country to support more American companies competing overseas. Recently, Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker released a new report, Jobs Supported by State Exports, which reveals that in 2014, exports of goods and services directly and indirectly supported 11.7 million U.S. jobs.

Here are some quick facts about U.S. exports of goods from the report:

• Exports from Texas, California, Washington, New York, and Illinois supported a total of 3 million jobs in 2014.

• Texas and California support one out of every four export jobs.

• Since 2009, the number of jobs supported by exports of goods and services grew by 1 million; of which over half were in Texas, Washington, California, Louisiana, and Michigan.

• 90 percent of the 1 million new export jobs created since 2009 were from Texas, Washington, California, Louisiana, and Michigan.

• Manufactured products account for 86 percent of all jobs supported by the export of goods—approximately 6.2 million.
